Good Clean Color Theory
The series began with this referenced image. The client assigned me to create a cohesive series of three images that conveys a hidden concept related to color theory. So when beginning ideation for this photo series, I knew I needed to include color theory, but I did not know what the main subject could be. After looking at some inspiration, I began by producing this image, which then gave me the idea to create a cohesive series of cleaning products with the hidden concept of color theory. This image begins with the color combination of blue and orange.
After completing the first image, I began further research for inspiration and reference images that I could pull from to create the other two images of the series. I also began thinking of cleaning products and their colors, and how to include the product’s primary color and its complementary color. That’s when the product Simple Green came to mind, which meant I needed to figure out how to incorporate red. I came up with the idea of creating a red spotlight behind the subject, but have soap suds that have a clean swipe leading to the image’s focal point.
For the final image of this series, I wanted to include more movement and action compared to the first two images. I began by looking at product photography with motion incorporated into it. Once I found a reference image, I need to pick a product and complement the primary brand color with its complementary color. With the fact that my last color combination was yellow and purple, I automatically thought of Lemon Pledge/Pine-Sol on a purple backdrop. The most difficult part about capturing this image was capturing the lemon slices in motion while maintaining composition in the frame.
