Have you ever seen an album where the cover art captures the artist’s voice as powerfully as the music itself? For this project, I created a comprehensive visual campaign for local musician EMERALD, supporting her debut single, ‘Back in Your Hands,’ along with other single releases leading up to the full album release of, ‘Hopeless RomAntics.’ The project builds a cohesive visual identity through album art, posters, social media content, and merch, showcasing my skills in visual storytelling, digital photography, and creative collaboration.

Pre-Production
The images referenced are pre-production documents for the project, including a project brief, sources of inspiration, and lighting concepts. However, the projected timeline changed shortly after the creative brief was produced. These changes will be noted throughout the case study, and each will be elaborated further.
For starters, the first project to be produced is the cover art for her first single release, “Back in Your Hands,” scheduled for October 2025, rather than the client’s originally anticipated date of January 2026 (referenced in the Creative Brief Timeline). Below are the 3 lighting concepts referenced for the first photoshoot.

These images are lighting setup simulations through set.a.light 3D software, featuring each lighting setup and posing references attached from ‘Sources of Inspiration’ in the Creative Brief. Each were utilized to experiment with for the cover art and visual identity of “Back in Your Hands” (and the later on released single “Want You Near). The images below are for the official album “Hopeless Romantics”. Each of these poses was researched through Pinterest, and they were experimented with and adjusted accordingly to fit the model’s ability and comfort for posing. For each concept not chosen for the cover and album art, the remaining produced images will be utilized in mock-up posters and other merchandise mock-ups.

My initial vision included finding a male model to have with the client to look like a couple, but I was unable to scout for a model she was comfortable working with and within the scheduled timeframe, so I decided to switch gears to the backup concept, although the lighting setup was the same. Lastly, although not displayed within these concepts is the added element of a rose on fire. With this element, I did extensive research to find a way to include fire in-camera without injuring my client or damaging props. I found a resource that explains how to create a butane bubble solution that allows for flames for short bursts at a time without damage or injury. So timing was key when trying to get the right effect for the album cover.
